Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing

About the event
Join us for a mindful cross-country ski experience on Mount Royal!

This event is designed to combine the joy of learning to ski with the benefits of mindfulness in nature. Together, we’ll move at a gentle pace, connecting breath and movement while gliding through the snowy trails of Mount Royal Park.

If the weather conditions are not good for skiing, we’ll enjoy a mindful skating session at Beaver Lake instead (same meeting location).

We will meet at the Beaver Lake Pavilion, where you can rent skis, poles, and boots. At the time of writing, ski rental is $23.00 for 3 hours. Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you’re renting equipment, please arrive early and head to the rental counter to get fitted. Once you’re ready with your gear, meet us outside the pavilion at the main entrance.

This mindful skiing event is perfect for beginners and first-time cross-country skiers. No prior experience is required! If you are already experienced, you’re welcome to join—just keep in mind that we’ll be moving slowly and dedicating some time to developing basic ski technique and building confidence on the trails. We also plan to host a more advanced mindful ski event later this winter.

frequently asked questions

Do I need prior experience with mindfulness or ecotherapy to attend?

Not at all. This retreat is open to everyone—whether you’re brand new to mindfulness and ecotherapy or already have a practice. Dr. Moire Stevenson will guide you step-by-step through the day with clear, gentle instructions and supportive facilitation.

Will it be physically demanding?

This is a moderate-level hike that includes steady uphill walking with breaks throughout. While you don’t need to be an athlete, a basic level of physical fitness and comfort walking on uneven terrain is important. The pace will be gentle, with rest stops designed for reflection and integration.

What happens in the case of poor weather?

We embrace all types of weather as part of the experience. Please dress accordingly (layered clothing, waterproof outerwear, etc.). The event will go ahead rain or shine, unless extreme weather makes it unsafe—in which case, you will be contacted with an update.

Who can I contact with more questions?

Feel free to reach out to us anytime at info@moirestevenson.com with questions or concerns. We’re happy to help you feel fully prepared and supported.
